Bamboozlers: Five of Diamonds
A mesmerizing math trick with 5's.
Write down 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 555. Ask someone by drawing one line to make the equation correct. Tell them that putting a line through the equal symbol (=) making it the not-equal symbol is not the answer you are looking for and that the total really is five hundred and fifty-five.
Most of the time people will give up and demand the answer. When showing this to friends I’ll say, “Okay Mr. Quitter let me show you,” as I draw the line to make the “4.” Just to pour a little more salt on their mental wound I’ll add, “I’ll try being nicer if you’ll promise to try being smarter.”
